I felt a compulsion to record these images for my own reasons. And yet I'm constantly surprised by the responses they elicit from others.

For many these images evoke childhood memories of cross-country trips with "Mom and Pop", first dates, breakups with old flames and undying love consummated in the backseat of a Ford Fairlane.

These reactions are visceral, coming unbidden when least expected. So deeply embedded in the subconscious of our psyche is the "Great American Dream" and all of its promise. Inextricably tied to the automobile.

And yet beneath that promise lies the remnants of broken promises and broken automobiles. Their very existence forever intertwined with each other.

For me...it was a red '68 Torino...and I'm still trying to fit it into the scheme of my life.
