Uploading to Photo-Genesis: A Graphic HOWTO
By: Gene Bradford
I've noticed recently that there's some confusion in uploading to the Gallery. First I need to point out that only registered members who have received an invitation from Photo-Genesis will be able to upload. No others will have that capability unfortunately. What follows is a graphic HOWTO on the steps you'll need to follow in order to get your images on the site.
Step #1, Illustration #1:
In the first image you'll see how to initiate the upload process. There are two methods to do this: 1) Either click on the word "Sidebar" in the upper right portion of your screen or 2) Click on the icon in the upper left portion of your screen.
Step #2, Illustration #2:
You should now have the "action" menu on your screen at this point. You will now need to click on the third item in the list, "Add Items", in order to add images to your gallery.
Step #3, Illustration #3:
There are several methods you can use to post your images to P-G but I've chosen the first one for this HOWTO, "From Web Browser". This is the default method so you'll see the same screen as this illustration shows.
You now need to click on the word "Browse". This will open a window showing Illustration #4. (While only 4 "File" and "Caption" bars are on screen originally, you only need to click on the word "More..." below the last one to get up to 20 of these bars to show on screen.)
Step #4, Illustration #4:
If you are using Windows, the next window should look something like this. Simply select the folder your images are located in and you'll see a list of them. Select the first one you wish to post and click on the "Open" button. Continue doing this until you've selected all of the images you want to upload to the site.
Step #5, Illustration #5:
Now is the time to title your images if you desire to do so. Enter the correct titles in all the "Caption" bars where you need to.
Step #6, Illustration #6:
You now need to click on the bar reading "Base filename". A drop-down menu will appear with three options. I suggest you select "Caption". This will eliminate the ".jpg" from the title of the image when visitors see it in your gallery.
Step #7, Illustration #7:
You should now uncheck these two boxes. If you do not, the title will appear in three places on each page. I personally don't like this but if you choose to have this, it is certainly your option. You now need to click on the "Add Items" button at the bottom of the page to start uploading your images.
Step #8, Illustration #8:
When you see this screen...SUCCESS is yours! Congratulations!
I'll be adding other Graphic HOWTO topics as I have the opportunity. The next one will illustrate the method of deleting images and sub-galleries from your main gallery. This one seems to cause the most problems since a lot of new users will accidently delete their entire gallery. Coming soon so keep an eye open for it!
