Kramer Bio
Artist's Statement - Kort Kramer
I've been a shutterbug for as long as I can remember. I am sure my father
was a big influence with his avid slide film photography. My first real SLR
was the old Topcon RS he bought while serving in Vietnam. It weighed a ton
but captured great pictures. I took photography classes in high school and
college and worked briefly for a small newspaper as it's sports and catchall
photographer. After leaving that job, I put the camera away for a while for but
some snapshooting here and there.
When my current employer bought a digital camera several years back, my love
for photography was rekindled. The instant gratification of digital was
amazing and I didn't have to have my own darkroom or send out my film to be
developed. I could check images on the spot and delete them if they didn't pass
muster. The only drawback was the quality. It was nowhere near the
refinement of film.
As you know, digital cameras have come a long way and I love my current
camera, an Olympus C8080. I owned a C5050 before that, but when an alligator
suprised me next to a Florida canal, that one ended up in the water. It was a
good excuse to upgrade, haha. With digital, I can shoot to my heart's content
and not worry about running out of film--only batteries and digital storage.
But that's a small price to pay for the creative freedom the digital age has
given me. Now if I only had more time....
